Friend Requests

Do you think some people collect friends like some people collect stamps?I recently had a friends request from someone with over 2,000 friends.  Unless they send 6 messages per day every day of the year they can not contact them all within a year.So why have friends lists?  i for one normall contact the person exchange a few comments, emails and then maybe ask to become a friend.Then there is staying in touch with your friends maybe as often as monthly or only at special occasions. Being on a friends list should mean something.
